Sergeants Mess offers a beautiful landscaped area adjacent to the main building perfect for your ceremony, meaning your guests can transition immediately to the pre-reception drinks and the main reception without the hassle of travel. This convenience greatly simplifies the logistics for everyone.
Sergeants Mess is a full-service, private wedding venue, not a public marriage registry office or council site. Therefore, the booking and fee structure is managed directly by the venue for the hire of their spaces and services.

Booking Sergeants Mess involves securing a date for exclusive use of the venue's spaces. This typically includes a minimum spend requirement for food and beverages and a separate venue hire fee or a ceremony fee if you choose to have your ceremony onsite in the landscaped area.
Couples are strongly advised to contact the Sergeants Mess events team directly to discuss their specific date, guest count, and to receive a detailed, up-to-date proposal for all associated fees.
Standard: 20 People. Add Guests: Add up to 100+ in total +$75.
You can have up to 20 people (the 2 of you and 18 guests) at your ceremony. This excludes children under 6 years old. For an additional fee of $75, this number can be increased to 100+ people in total. To add guests after your initial booking, go to the Add-ons tab in your portal.
I understand that, it is my responsibility to make the required booking with the park authority and pay any associated site fees directly to them.
Please aim to arrive 15 minutes prior to your ceremony (along with your guests) to ensure you are in the right location and ready to go at your scheduled time. Sergeants Mess is located in the beautiful Chowder Bay precinct of Mosman, about a 20-minute drive from the Sydney CBD.
Parking Situation: Limited metered parking is available directly opposite the venue on Chowder Bay Road. However, most guests are directed to the main Middle Head car park (Car Park 4, located a short distance past Chowder Bay Road on Middle Head Road). Sergeants Mess often runs a complimentary shuttle service from this main car park to the venue for guests, so check with your wedding coordinator for details on this service. Allow extra time for parking and the shuttle.
Sergeants Mess has a great advantage with its access via the Chowder Bay Wharf. This is a very stylish way to arrive for the wedding party or for guests. To plan this, you will need to book a private water transport company (like a water taxi or a chartered ferry) and coordinate the arrival time and passenger numbers with them in advance.
A convenient and stress-free option is to use a taxi or a ride-share service (e.g., Uber). They can typically drive you directly to the venue's entrance at Building 20, Chowder Bay Road, Mosman. For departure, guests will generally need to pre-arrange a service as taxis are not always waiting in the secluded area. Guests departing late at night should definitely pre-book their ride.
You can take a bus from the Sydney CBD. The 244 bus route travels from the city into Mosman. You would need to alight at a stop on Middle Head Road and then complete the journey to Chowder Bay Road on foot or potentially via the venue's shuttle service, depending on your bus stop and the venue's schedule. This requires careful planning using a journey planner (like the NSW Trip Planner).
Now it doesn't happen often, but when it does you will need to shelter under trees or bring umbrellas - how romantic. Fortunately, Sergeants Mess is a professional wedding venue and is well-prepared for any unexpected rain.
The venue offers convenient and stylish onsite wet weather options for your ceremony, ensuring the magnificent Harbour views are not lost:
a) Reservation of Location and Payment of Associated Fees
I understand that it is our responsibility to ensure this location is available for our ceremony. I will make all necessary arrangements and pay any associated fees directly to the venue or relevant authority.
b) Guest Numbers
I understand that the Standard number of people is 20. This can be increased to 100+ people for an additional fee of $75 (click on Add Ons after making your booking).
c) Standard Duration of Booking is 30 Minutes
I understand that the total time for the standard booking is 30 minutes, which is plenty of time for a beautiful ceremony. This time cannot be extended on the day of the ceremony. However, if you would like to extend the duration of your booking, this can be done prior to the date of the ceremony for an additional fee of $150. (Click on Add Ons after making your booking.)
d) Confetti and Natural Materials
I understand that to maintain the cleanliness and integrity of the area, confetti of any sort, including natural materials such as flower petals, rice, glitter, or artificial equivalents, are strictly prohibited—unless prior written consent is received from the venue.
e) Public Liability Insurance
I understand that if Public Liability confirmation is required, there will be an additional fee of $50 to provide this.
