Speers Point Park is a spectacular marriage venue on the shores of Lake Macquarie, making it a highly sought-after location for couples looking for a picturesque outdoor wedding ceremony. As experienced wedding celebrants, we know this venue offers a beautiful, relaxed setting for your special day. Its expansive lawns, waterfront views, and accessibility make it a top contender for the perfect lake-side ceremony.
Here are 5 reasons why you should choose this beautiful Lake Macquarie location for your wedding:
The park boasts breathtaking views right across the vast expanse of Lake Macquarie. Imagine saying your vows with the shimmering water and distant hills as your natural wedding backdrop—it’s pure magic and creates incredible wedding photos.
From open lawns perfect for a grand setup to more intimate, shaded nooks near the water, Speers Point Park offers diverse ceremony locations. You can choose the exact setting that matches your vision, whether it’s under a grand old tree or near the promenade.
As a major regional park, accessibility is excellent, with accessible pathways, ample parking, and convenient public amenities. This makes it easy for all your guests, including those with mobility challenges, to attend your ceremony stress-free.
Located close to numerous function centres, restaurants, and clubs around Speers Point and neighbouring suburbs like Warners Bay, it’s easy to transition from your beautiful marriage ceremony to your reception, making logistics simple for you and your guests.
With its famous playground, bike track, and open space, the park has a wonderful, relaxed, family-friendly vibe. If you have children or guests with young families, the surrounding area offers entertainment while the adults celebrate your wedding.
Please aim to arrive 15 minutes prior to your ceremony (along with your guests) to ensure you are in the right location and ready to go at your scheduled time.
Speers Point Park is easily accessible by car, being only about a 20-minute drive from the Newcastle CBD and around 90 minutes from the Sydney M1 Motorway exit. There are large public car parks available, including the main one on Park Road off The Esplanade, and another near the boat ramp or on Creek Reserve Road. Parking is usually plentiful, but it can get busy during peak times, weekends, or large community events, so guests should factor in extra time.
For guests arriving via rideshare or taxi, there are convenient drop-off and pick-up points located near the main car parks and the boat ramp area. Provide guests with the main park address (The Esplanade, Speers Point) and specify your exact ceremony spot within the park.
Local bus services (operated by Newcastle Transport/CDC NSW) run regularly through the Speers Point area. Guests can plan their journey using the NSW Transport trip planner, searching for 'Speers Point Park' as their destination. The closest bus stops are a short, flat walk from the park entrance.
Speers Point Park is a major hub on the Lake Macquarie shared pathway network. Guests staying locally in suburbs like Warners Bay, Booragul, or even Eleebana can enjoy a scenic walk or bike ride along the foreshore path right to the park.
Now it doesn't happen often, but when it does you will need to shelter under trees or bring umbrellas - how romantic.
As an outdoor, public park, Speers Point Park does not have a dedicated, large undercover area available for private wedding ceremony hire. The smaller BBQ shelters cannot be formally booked or secured for exclusive use.
Your wet weather plan for a wedding at Speers Point Park should therefore include:
a) Public Park Acknowledgment
I understand that this venue is a public park and that no site fee has been charged for its use by you (the provider).
b) Guest Capacity
I understand the Standard maximum number of people is 20. I can increase this to a maximum of 60 people for an extra $75 (I will select Add Ons after booking).
I understand that if I plan to have more than 20 people, it is my responsibility to make the required booking with the park authority and pay any associated site fees directly to them.
c) Booking Duration
I understand the Standard booking time is 30 minutes, which is plenty of time for a beautiful ceremony. I acknowledge that this duration cannot be extended on the day of the ceremony.
If I wish to extend the time, I understand I must arrange this prior to the ceremony date for an additional $150 for an additional 30 minutes (I will select Add Ons after booking).
d) Confetti and Prohibited Materials
I understand that confetti of any sort, including natural materials such as flower petals, rice, glitter, or artificial equivalents, are strictly prohibited.
e) Public Liability Insurance
I understand that an additional fee of $50 will apply if Public Liability confirmation is required for bookings with more than 60 people.
