Booking and Fees for City to Surf Heartbreak Hill

To have your ceremony at this location, you must be a registered participant in the City to Surf event. A booking for the location itself is managed through the event organisers, as Heartbreak Hill falls within the restricted race route on the day of the event.

Requirements: You and your witnesses (and any guests) must have official race bibs to access the course. Standard entry fees apply per person. For large groups or specific activations, you must contact the event organisers directly to ensure you do not obstruct the flow of the race.

Guest Numbers:

Standard: 10 People.

You can have up to 10 people (the 2 of you and 8 guests) at your ceremony. This number can not be increased

Getting there:

Heartbreak Hill, during City to Surf

Of course, you have to run, along with your guests, to ensure you are in the right location and ready to go at your scheduled time.

You will initially have to make your way to the start of the City to Surf (Williams Street, Sydney) and be ready to start at your schedule group start time.

You will then have to run/ jog/walk the first approximate 6.5km to arrive at your ceremony start time at the bottom of Heartbreak Hill, near the corner of New South Head Rd and Drove Road, Rose Bay.

It will be a "running start", so no time hanging around and waiting - so run together.

But relax, we will talk through all contingencies well prior to the day.

Getting to the start line - allow plenty of time.

Private Car: 🚗 Note that major road closures are in effect throughout the Eastern Suburbs. Parking near Heartbreak Hill (New South Head Road) is extremely limited and generally restricted to only residents with permits. It is highly recommended to park further away or use the event shuttle services.

Public Transport (Train & Bus): 🚆 Take a train to Edgecliff or Bondi Junction and use the event-specific shuttle buses provided by Transport NSW. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner at transportnsw.info.

On Foot (The Race): 🏃‍♀️ The most common way to reach this location is by starting the race at Hyde Park and running/jogging/walking to the 7km mark to reach the crest of Heartbreak Hill in Rose Bay/Vaucluse.

It is always cooling when it rains on the day - so embrace it! And, traditionally, it is also lucky to get married on a rainy day - how romantic.

Conditions of booking:

a) Reservation of your entry to the 2026 City to Surf and Payment of Associated Fees

I understand that it is our responsibility to make sure we have booked our entry in the 2026 City to Surf and in the right group. If uncertain, please discuss with Simple Ceremonies prior to booking. We can not change or cancel your booking

b) Guest Numbers

I understand that the Standard number of people is 8. This can not be increased to ensure we do not interfere with any other runners.

c) Standard Duration of Booking is aproximately 15-20 Minutes

I understand that the total time for the standard booking is approximately 15- 20 minutes, which is plenty of time for a beautiful ceremony and to run up Heartbreak Hill. If you are late to arrive we will not be able to marry you. Some contigencey will be available after the race at Bondi - but this will be limited ie RUN! 🤪

d) Confetti and Natural Materials

I understand that to maintain the cleanliness and integrity of the area, confetti of any sort, including natural materials such as flower petals, rice, glitter, or artificial equivalents, are strictly prohibited— consider throwing paper drinking cups from the water station. 😍

e) This service is not endorsed by the organisers of City to Surf

I understand that this ceremony service is not endorsed by the organisers of the City to Surf. Hence ask that all participants (couple and their guests) in no way hinder the running of the 2026 City to Surf or it's participats.
